Kids On The Move

Kids On The Move (KOTM) is Victoria’s new key traffic safety education resource for primary schools.

It targets a minimum level of traffic safety education for children in Prep to Year 2 and children transitioning from primary to secondary school (Years 6 and 7).

Kids On The Move

The resource comprises three books and a DVD titled A child’s world of traffic, for parents/carers of children in Prep to Year 2.

The first book (Book 1) targets school communities with ideas for whole-of-school approaches to improve road safety for children. Book 2 includes classroom activities for teachers of children in Prep to Year 2 and Book 3 contains activities for teachers of Years 5 to 7.

The aims of Kids on the Move

Kids On The Move has several aims which include :

  • assisting school communities to understand their role in delivering essential traffic safety education;
  • providing schools with a variety of teaching and learning activities which will link to the Victorian Essential Learning Standards at Levels 1, 2, 4 and 5, as well as to real world road use;
  • identifying additional enrichment activities that school communities can undertake to address local priorities; and
  • providing key road safety information to parents/carers, including activities they can undertake with their children in real traffic environments.

Kids On The Move effectively replaces VicRoads RoadSmart program that many schools will have in their resource centre or library. RoadSmart remains a valuable resource and provides schools with additional traffic safety education activities to enrich their program and children’s learning.
