Speed limits save lives

In 2005, following concerns raised by the community, the Victorian Government asked the Speed Limits Advisory Group to review speed limits in Victoria.

To help Victorian motorists understand some of the speed limits better, a public education campaign was developed.

The campaign consists of television, radio, newspaper and online advertising using a distinctive black and white animation style and the sign off line ‘Speed limits save lives’.

The campaign has two parts. The first reminds motorists that it is not hard to know the speed limit on any street, even on those without a sign. When you are driving in a street in a built up area without a sign, the speed limit is 50 km/h.
Remember - If there’s no sign, it’s 50.

The second part of the campaign reminds motorists of the types of signs they will see near school zones and when they apply. Click here for the types of signs you will see around schools.
