When school speed limits apply

School speed limits apply outside every school in Victoria to increase the safety for our most vulnerable road users - children.

To assist drivers comply with "school day" speed limits, the Victorian Government publishes in the Government Gazette the days on which these speed limits apply. In 2009, with the exception of weekends and public holidays, "school day" speed limits will apply on all days in the following periods:

"School day" speed limits were introduced across the State starting in October 2003. These speed limits are clearly signposted. So watch out for the speed limit signs near schools, slow down and obey the school rules.
