Safer road users
While arrive alive 2008-2017 commits the Victorian Government to improving the state’s road system, all Victorians share a responsibility to use the system safely and responsibly, and with consideration for other road users.
A safe road system is a partnership between government and road users. The Government is committed to providing a world leading traffic safety system that assists individual road users to travel safely and efficiently. By complying with the requirements of this system, such as following the road rules and driving safely, road users will ensure that all Victorians benefit from public investment in road safety, as well as making a vital contribution to saving lives and reducing serious injuries on our roads.
The strategy targets each of the following road users behaviours and issues:
- Speed and speeding
- Drink driving
- Drug driving
- Fatigued driving
- Driver distraction
- Young drivers
- Older drivers
- Motorcyclists
- Pedestrians
- Cyclists
- Heavy vehicle drivers
- Public transport users
- Country road users
