Rear-end crashes
Rear-end crashes on average account for nine deaths on Victoria’s roads each year.
What the strategy will do
Measures to achieve the arrive alive 2008 - 2017 target for rear-end crashes will include:
- Designing new roads and roadsides, monitoring and improving existing roads to the safest levels practicable including skid resistance treatments.
- Setting speed limits according to the safety standards of roads and roadsides.
- Increasing the strategic enforcement effort, for example, by developing and using technology to deter vehicles from travelling too close to one another.
