A run-off-road crash occurs when a vehicle leaves the road and often collides with a roadside object such as a tree or a pole.

What the strategy will do

arrive alive 2008-2017 will reduce the incidence and severity of run-off-road crashes through measures that include:

  • Designing new roads and roadsides, monitoring and improving existing roads to the safest levels practicable through infrastructure treatments including safety barriers, rumble lines, shoulder sealing, and removal/relocation of roadside hazards and objects.
  • Setting speed limits according to the safety standards of roads and roadsides.
  • Streamline requirements to remove or trim native vegetation in order to maintain the safety and efficiency of the road.
